The Chaa Creek Natural History Centre, located at the lodge at Chaa Creek on the Macal River, offers visitors a tour along a fascinating time line, which begins with prehistoric land formation through to the shifting of the continents. On this fascinating tour you will be able to see the movement of life in Belize through the ages; from Mayan temples in the steaming jungle to modern day traditional rainforest healers.
While providing a comprehensive introduction to the history and geography of Belize the center also presents visual displays of archaeological artifacts, butterflies, moths, insects and amphibians that capture the curiosity of young children, students and scientists alike. The forested area surrounding the Centre has become an educational destination which, combined with the Belize Rainforest Medicine Trail, offers an excellent opportunity to study medicinal and useful plants.
This tour is a perfect combination with a Xunantunich or Cahal Pech ruins, or perhaps along with a half day canoe trip or mountain biking adventure. Also ask about the Belize Rainforest Medicinal Trail and the Blue Morpho Butterfly Hatchery located just next door.
