The adventure hub of inland Belize

Michael and Maria Simmons are Belizeans, born right here in good old San Ignacio, Cayo, the little town that has become the adventure hub of inland Belize.  They entered the Belize tourism industry in 1995 when they both moved to the Mountain Pine Ridge Reserve to work for a number of years at Francis Ford Coppola’s Blancaneaux Lodge.  Michael worked as a front desk clerk and was promoted to front desk manager within a few months.  Maria worked as a cook preparing mouth-watering Belizean dishes.

In the years following, Michael worked as reservations & front desk supervisor at the Maya Mountain Lodge, and then as groups reservations administrator at the lodge at Chaa Creek, while Maria became a stay-at-home mom of the young Simmons children.

In 2002 Michael returned to the Blancaneaux Resorts to become the company’s reservations manager in their down-town San Ignacio office.  Michael would hold this position for the next seven years, but he didn’t leave before winning the coveted 2008 Magnum Belize award for outstanding performance in the Belize Tourism Industry!  In 2009 he decided to leave the Blancaneaux Resorts as he and Maria became the new owners of Cayo Adventure Tours.  Since then Michael has been running the office and managing the company’s daily operations, while Maria serves up the most delicious picnic lunches in town.
